Architecture updates

After receiving input from “Freunde der Erziehungskunst Rudolf Steiners” we have given some serious consideration to the architecture that we will use for our school in Bouaké. Based on their experience on using Earthship for a school in Sierra Leone they state that the architecture is not ideal for the climate and result in a hot and dark environment for the students and teachers. The climate in Côte d’Ivoire is quite similar to the one in Sierra Leone. “Freunde der Erziehungskunst Rudolf Steiners” made it clear that they will not support a second building of this type and since we are a Waldorf endorsed school this feedback is very impactful.

Our ambition is to open the maternelle (kindergarten/ preschool) section of the school in September and to do so we need to start building soon. For these reasons we have decided to move back to a locally designed architecture. The decision gives us freedom to advance the construction in stages as funds become available. We have re-launched the design process of the school that was put on halt in August and we will share more details as the drawings mature. Let’s just leave you with the teaser that our kindergarten / preschool will be inspired by our beloved friends the honey makers in the design!
